IVF (in vitro fertilization) - is a type of infertility treatment.

Theses about IVF

What you need to know for a successful IVF procedure

1

IVF requires 9-16 eggs

2

9-16 oocytes are associated with an optimal chance of treatment success

3

To obtain 9-16 eggs in one cycle, hormonal stimulation is performed

4

The number of eggs is influenced by a large number of factors that are difficult to take into account

5

The forecast for the number of eggs that can be obtained changes all the time

6

A more reliable forecast of the number of eggs that can be obtained from a woman at a particular time is needed

The most important indicator of the effectiveness of IVF is the onset of pregnancy and the birth of a healthy child. But on the way to pregnancy there are several critical points.

1

    getting quality oocytes

2

    successful fertilization of oocytes

3

    obtaining healthy embryos

4

    successful implantation and pregnancy

5

    childbirth

The first important point is the number of quality oocytes.

How many oocytes do you need?

Normally, in a woman's body, 1 oocyte matures in one menstrual cycle, rarely - 2 oocytes at once.

So why does IVF need not one, not two, but several, and even oocytes?

In order to be able to get 1 viable embryo, it is necessary that the embryologist fertilize at least 8 oocytes, and this is if the woman is under 35 years old. The older the woman, the more eggs are required to produce a viable embryo.

Is there a “rule” that the more eggs, the better? Not certainly in that way!

Scientists have analyzed many thousands of protocols and considered that the maximum chance for IVF success is observed in cases where the embryologist receives 9-16 oocytes for work.

9-16

oocytes is the optimal response of the ovaries

4-8

oocytes production is a suboptimal ovarian response

0-3

oocytes is a weak response of the ovaries

In the case of receiving a small number of oocytes, the chance of success in infertility treatment is significantly reduced. This is the most important knowledge that we possess by now.

To obtain oocytes in the required quantity, hormonal stimulation of the ovaries is carried out. Thanks to hormonal stimulation of the ovaries, it is possible to obtain the required number of oocytes in one menstrual cycle. Hormonal stimulation of the ovaries is the first and extremely important stage of treatment.

Thus, the number of oocytes is the most important factor influencing the effectiveness of the entire treatment.

Weak ovarian response

Then why can not doctors get 9-16 or at least 4-8 eggs from a woman?

There are several reasons for this:

  • sometimes this is not possible due to the fact that the woman has a low ovarian reserve (there were operations on the ovaries, there is a depletion of the ovarian reserve, the woman is over 40 years old). In this situation, the poor response of the ovaries and the production of a small number of oocytes is not a surprise. The doctor and patient are aware of the risk of a poor response.
  • But sometimes the insufficient response of the ovaries is a very unpleasant surprise for the doctor and the patient. The woman has a good ovarian reserve, is young, the doctor prescribed a good drug, and the ovarian response is weak. This is one of the saddest situations during stimulation.

This is called an unexpected weak ovarian response.

Up to 20% of women experience infertility treatment with unexpected poor ovarian response.

Number of women with unexpectedly poor ovarian response

Many factors influence the response of the ovaries to hormonal stimulation:

  • related to the woman herself: age, ovarian reserve, health status, genetic features, cause of infertility, previous diseases, weight, organ function…
  • related to the conditions in which a woman lives: ambient temperature, the number of sunny days in the region of residence, ecology.
  • related to stimulation: what drug, in what doses the doctors stimulated and many others, different women can react differently to the same drug, one woman can respond differently to the same drug in different periods of time.

This is a huge amount of information that must be taken into account in the treatment.

Many of these factors, the doctor cannot take into account when conducting stimulation, because it is known that the specialist is able to “keep in mind” no more than 4-5 key factors that affect the result.

Our Assistant for Human Reproduction comes to the aid of the doctor and the patient. A team of specialists developed the Assistant using artificial intelligence technologies. The development team analyzed several thousand protocols in order to identify significant factors that affect the outcome of ovarian stimulation.

IVF ASSISTANT

Use our Assistant right now.

You need to answer some important questions and the Assistant will calculate how many eggs you can get under certain conditions. You can do as many calculations as you want, you can save the prediction results and share this information with your doctor. Do not worry, you will understand this forecast and the meaning of each number without much difficulty.

The Assistant is an opportunity to independently evaluate your chances of success in therapy.

This Assistant can also be used to predict the number of eggs that can be obtained from an egg donor.

THERE ARE CONTRAINDICATIONS, YOU NEED TO CONSULT WITH A SPECIALIST. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK YOUR PHYSICIAN.

This forecast is a guideline for you and your doctor. This prognosis cannot replace the advice and decisions of your healthcare professional.
